BIO:  I have studied abroad in three countries. My first two study abroads were in the summer after my P2 year in Buenos Aires, Argentina and San Jose, Costa Rica. I spent the first month learning intensive Spanish and grammar and the second in a medical Spanish class. At first I was super nervous about being away from home all summer abroad but would not have traded the experience for anything else in the world. I fell in love with Argentina, which I would describe as a Paris of the South. In Costa Rica, I spent my weekends off going to the beach - it's not every day you can touch the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans in one week. The professors who taught my classes were just as good as those at ONU and they cared about my learning, and the ISA (International Study Abroad) program directors took care of me 24/7. I still keep in touch with both of my host families and loved all of the things I got to see, do, and eat in my summer abroad. My third study abroad was in the summer after my P4 year through the Hanyang Fellowship to Seoul, South Korea. For how inexpensive overall the program is (tuition, housing, and partial travel reimbursed) it would be crazy not to go! There I took a health and sociology class. This was a different experience because you were with a lot of other ONU students so you didn't feel that far away from home, even though you were literally on the other side of the world. All of the study abroad programs offer weekend excursions included in your package that allow you to explore the country as a group and that made traveling less overwhelming. The one thing I miss the most from Korea would have to be the food and cafes on every block. If you're hesitant about studying abroad, definitely start here.

BIO:  My name is Lucas Casserlie, and I am a Pharmacy/Spanish double major, and I studied abroad in San Ramon, Costa Rica (Summer 2013). During my study abroad experience, I lived with a host family who spoke only Spanish, took classes at the local university, and interned at the hospital downtown. This was the perfect way for me to immense myself in the Hispanic culture and language, while continuing my pharmacy education and experiences. San Ramon was the perfect balance of city and scenery, with rainforests, volcanoes, the beach, and the capital of San Jose all within an hour bus ride. My favorite memories are the life-long family and friends I made while in San Ramon, and I keep in touch with many of them to this day. Choosing to study abroad was the best decision I have made in college, and it has helped me far beyond the 11 short weeks I was able to be in Costa Rica.

BIO:  Before committing to study abroad in Bilbao, Spain, I had always assumed that the experience would be academically impossible and astronomically expensive. Luckily, the study abroad office helped me pick a location and program that enabled me to coordinate courses and find scholarships to make the five weeks comparable to an extended vacation. No matter your interests or reasons to go overseas, there is a niche to be found in all the possibilities offered. Although my Spanish minor was complete, I got to experience the Spanish (and Basque) culture by living with a host family. Studying in Getxo/Bilbao gave me the ability to take marketing and management courses that fulfilled requirements for my business minor. I will always value the freedom of exploring a unique culture, making lasting relationships with fellow students and local Basques, and developing my own sense of self. This summer, I look forward to coordinating another trip through USAC to Santiago, Chile alongside my brother who attends University of Cincinnati.
